The DXC (Ent Serv UK Limited), AMPA Programme is responsible for the continued delivery and future growth of the Advanced Mission Planning Aid (AMPA) and associated products. Used widely within the RAF and various foreign Air Forces, AMPA is built around a common software core, with tailoring and additional capability being implemented for specific aircraft types.

Applicants should be cleared to a minimum of SC and be a UK national with no caveats or dual nationality. Experienced System Administrator required for an office-based role supporting the AMPA programme and specifically fulfilling contractual requirements. A Systems Engineer undertaking the System Administration role provides computing facilities to the delivery team and maintains those facilities to meet AMPA project needs. They are responsible for providing a Project Support Environment that meets the specification defined by the Design Office.

Reports to: Systems Team Lead / Service Delivery Manager; Accountable to the STL/SDM for the execution of System Administration activities in accordance with AMPA processes within the constraints of time, cost and quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the STL to ensure that the facilities required to enable the AMPA team to deliver contracted support and change requirements are available and maintaining these facilities to ensure availability as required by the project team.
  • Providing access to the Project Support Environment to meet the requirements of AMPA.
  • Providing internal system help desk support to AMPA staff.
  • Producing and maintaining a schedule of work associated with the administration and maintenance of the facilities.
  • Undertaking System Administration tasks identified within the System Team Backlog in accordance with the policies and procedures detailed in the Air QMS (Quality Management System).
  • Monitoring and reporting on environment performance.
  • Manage the environment in order to maintain its performance and availability.
  • Ensuring that all data held on the system is backed up and can be restored in the event of any data loss.
  • Work within the boundaries of the AMPA Quality Management System (QMS) and the procedures defined within it.
  • Providing Licensing support as required: Obtain Licence quotes for software used on the account.
  • Some weekend working will be required for regular software patching.
  • May be required to be on call (rare occurrences).

Essential Skills / Experience:

  • Must be cleared to a minimum of SC.
  • Conversant with Active Directory.
  • Conversant with Microsoft Server suites and Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems.
  • Software updated via WSUS.
  • VMware and VEEAM backups.
  • SQL Databases.
  • Experience of maintaining software solutions on various hardware platforms.
  • TCP/IP & Static Networking including Aruba Procurve switches and patching.

Desirable Skills / Experience:

  • Experience with customer facing roles.
  • Conversant with IBM Rational suite (ClearCase / ClearQuest).
  • Experience in supporting and managing hardware/software assets.
  • Experience in software licence management.
  • Experience in Printer management.
  • Conversant with MS Office suite (Word / Excel etc.).
  • Conversant with PowerShell and scripting.
  • Understanding physical hardware configuration and being able to build and modify COTS equipment to details specifications.
  • Windows Defender and Trellix Anti-virus.
