Job Overview
We are hiring Data Centre Engineers for a client based in Sevenoaks in Kent with regular attendance at the Maidstone site. This is a secure environment requiring security clearance; we invite applications from UK nationals who hold or are willing to undergo SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Visually inspect status indicators (LEDs) on customer equipment and report status.
- Perform a power‑cycle of an item of customer equipment as per written instructions.
- Inspect power and cabling connectivity and confirm proper seating.
- Test cable paths for conformance to performance standards.
- Connect a Crash Cart (KVM) to assist diagnosis of failed reboots or power cycles.
- Mount media in identified drives as part of system builds or diagnosis.
- Activate hardware controls and replace hot‑swappable components as per instructions.
Required Qualifications
- Basic understanding of IT operations in a large organisation.
- Strong loyalty and respect for data and DC facility security.
- Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing); local language fluency also required.
- Ability to work precisely and maintain quality orientation.
- Flexibility and willingness to cope with unexpected problems and situations.
- Technical orientation and professional communication skills.
- Basic understanding of server hardware (console, devices).
- Ability to handle various types of media, devices and libraries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and general PC hardware.
- Basic understanding of networking.
- Data centre operations experience and familiarity with structures and processes.
- Professional certification in a related field or a professional degree in a technical discipline.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work dayshift and nightshift hours; a generous shift allowance is provided.
- Must have own transport and be able to drive to both sites.
- Must pass standard Criminal Records checks; additional background checks may be required by certain customers.
