Role Purpose

The Legal Counsel will support the business by providing practical, commercially focused legal advice across a range of matters within a logistics and transportation environment. Working closely with the Head of Legal and wider business teams, the role offers an opportunity to develop strong in‑house experience while contributing to the effective management of legal risk and supporting day‑to‑day operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial & Contractual
    • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, including customer and supplier agreements, logistics and delivery, warehousing and distribution agreements, IT agreements, and NDAs.
    • Support the legal team in contract management, including maintaining contract templates and tracking key obligations.
    • Provide legal input on tenders, bids, and commercial proposals under supervision.
  • Regulatory & Compliance
    • Support the business on regulatory and compliance matters relevant to logistics and transportation, including health and safety requirements, environmental and sustainability considerations, and data protection and privacy (UK GDPR).
    • Assist with maintaining legal policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
    • Help monitor regulatory developments and elevate relevant changes to the legal team.
    • Assist with the management of claims and disputes, including gathering information and liaising with external advisers where required.
    • Support insurance‑related matters, including claims notifications and renewals.
    • Help identify legal risks within business activities and flag issues appropriately.
  • Corporate & General Legal Support
    • Provide general legal support to internal stakeholders, including operations, sales, procurement, and HR.
    • Assist with corporate governance matters, including record‑keeping and company secretarial support where required.
    • Support legal aspects of internal projects and initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build effective working relationships with internal teams.
    • Communicate legal advice clearly and practically, with guidance from senior lawyers.
    • Contribute to basic legal training and awareness sessions for the business.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) or equivalent, or nearing qualification.
  • Ideally around 2-3 years’ post‑qualification experience, or relevant experience gained through training contract / NQ role.
  • Strong interest in commercial and in‑house legal work.
  • Good drafting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritise work and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Some exposure to logistics, transportation, supply chain, or regulated industries.
  • In‑house experience (including secondments) or strong interest in an in‑house career.
  • Basic familiarity with regulatory and compliance matters.
