Job Summary: To act as the organisation’s lead and competent person for Health and Safety as defined by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To act as the organisations, lead competent person for environmental policies and procedures
  • To lead the development and execution of the Sustainability and ESG strategy to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk and support growth
  • To ensure the organisation complies with current health and safety legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision
  • To work proactively with managers to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices, operational excellence and continuous improvement across the organisation
  • To provide direct management and leadership of the Safety, Health & Environment team

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills and the ability to challenge constructively
  • Effective team working and networking skills and the ability to work independently using own initiative
  • A relevant professional qualification - NEBOSH Diploma
  • A chartered member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH)
  • Dangerous Goods safety Advisor (DGSA)
  • GDP Gold Standard - knowledge of pharmaceutical distribution regulations
  • The ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload
  • Extensive knowledge of effective health and safety management strategies and best practice
  • Detailed knowledge of current health and safety legislation and its application in the DX / supply chain environment
  • Leadership and improvement/change management

Personal Specification:

  • Ideally from multi-drop delivery and collections background
  • Experience of working with a self-employed supplier base
  • Working knowledge of route planning and use of routing software
  • A minimum of 2 years of management experience, including managing teams
  • Ability to effectively plan, manage, motivate and develop a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience of working within budgets and cost controls
  • Commands respect from the depot team through knowledge, experience and positive personal style
  • Has a transparent and supportive management style
  • Relates well to people and recognises the importance of and effectively delivering regular communication to all site team members
  • Has a passion for delivering great service and a strong customer focus
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and demands, working under pressure to critical deadlines and objectives
  • Has a regard for the wider business interest and the need to work as part of a team
  • Able to communicate effectively and confidently with all levels of DX management, colleagues and suppliers
