What you’ll be responsible for:

• You will manage a high performing team, delivering minor works schemes safely and efficiently.
• Responsible for the Health, Safety & Wellbeing of the Team.
• Implementing the management framework, procedures and monitoring plan for the team.
• Ensuring compliance with statutory and legislative requirements.
• Having line management responsibilities for a number of Project Coordinators, including performance management, training & development and coaching of direct reports in accordance with all HR policies, including people engagement.
• Ensuring implementation of Welsh Water contract, supply chain and commercial systems to ensure consistency.
• The Contracts Manager role will include fulfilling the role of Project Manager as defined under NEC.
• Complying with Welsh Water Health and Safety requirements, ensuring all projects comply with the latest CDM Regulations and helping to identify good/best practice construction techniques, and bad practice where applicable under the ‘near miss’ reporting procedure.
• Ensuring the business can meet its requirement for project delivery in line with the latest CDM and other related regulations to optimise performance.
• This role will guide Action Planning to maximise efficiencies to align with approved target cost which will enable delivery of the Welsh Water investment programme.
• Effectively monitor and track delivery and be able to take appropriate action in the event of programme slippage and contractor cost management under NEC conditions of contract.
• Where appropriate implement sustainable and innovative project solutions, working toward efficiency targets and reduction in Welsh Water’s carbon footprint.
• Guide on incident investigations for any service failure issues, make recommendations, and ensure actions are completed to agreed timeframes.
• This will include problem solving and solutions.
• Ensuring Welsh Water’s interests are protected at all times and that risks to the business are minimised by ensuring project risks are identified, understood, valued and correctly allocated and managing the early warning and risk reduction process.
• Instigating project peer reviews in order to ensure Welsh Water’s interests represented during solution selection and any business risks are understood.
• Assisting with the resolution of issues between third parties and Welsh Water.
• Ensuring that all project handover documentation and procedures are complete before issue of Final Certificates, managing the post‑project appraisal process and undertaking appropriate ‘root cause ‘analysis upon scheme completion in order to ensure that there is a continuous improvement process applied.
• Participate in Silver Management standby rota for operations – being accountable inline with the DCWW incident response manual and incident procedures.

About you:

• Professional Qualification and Education to Degree level or Equivalent.
• NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Health & Safety.
• Operational experience in a control and work management environment with ability to demonstrate a track record of success.
• Implementing best practice techniques for Minor Works management to drive value for money.
• Extensive experience of project management, guiding a large team or similar in the delivery of high value capital solutions.
• Experience and understanding of Health and Safety Legislation, including CDM Regulations.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to take people at all levels through scenarios relating to performance, procedural and incident related matters.
• Be able to guide an incident review for performance to reach an informed and true conclusion.
• Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day.
• Skilled Health & Safety leadership and control.
• Detailed knowledge of IMS processes with regard to R&M projects and work volumes.
• A wide range of project delivery skills combined with strong commercial awareness for R&M Activities.
• Decision making and awareness of wider business issues, corporate policies and the ability to deliver cost effective solutions within target timescales.
• Risk and Issue Resolution: Proactively managing contract risks, variations, and disputes, while escalating complex issues.
• High level analytical skills to ensure effective scoping and delivery of effective solutions to operational delivery problems.
• Excellent communication and team-working skills including tensions or conflicts situations.
• The ability to work to tight regulatory deadlines.
