What you’ll be responsible for
Commercially managing a portfolio of large, complex capital projects across a range of engineering disciplines, ensuring best in class commercial and cost management that demonstrates value for money on all projects delivered.
- Providing professional, commercial and cost management of a number of capital projects simultaneously.
- Providing support and advice to a team of project managers and project engineers on all aspects of commercial contract management within Frameworks.
- Assisting with procurement and allocation of capital work to framework contractors.
- Undertaking detailed cost analysis on tender returns for capital projects.
- Preparing all aspects of works orders, ensuring all Welsh Water project approval processes are followed.
- Validating and agreeing contract values and target costs with framework contractors.
- Identifying, analysing and developing response to commercial project risks, ensuring risks are understood, valued and correctly allocated.
- Carrying out monthly valuations of completed work and recommending for payment.
- Managing the flow of financial information between finance, SAP teams, project managers and contractors.
- Providing advice on contractual claims, early warning notices and compensation events.
- Agreeing and signing off final accounts at contractor and project levels.
- Undertaking appropriate ‘lessons learnt’ analysis upon project completion in order to ensure that there is a continuous improvement process applied.
- Assisting with dispute resolution between third parties and Welsh Water.
- Providing accurate and timely management information.
- Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

About you
The following Knowledge & Skills & Experience are essential unless otherwise stated:
- A degree qualification in Quantity Surveying/Civil Engineering or similar would be an advantage
- Experience of working with NEC contracts
- Minimum of 3 years construction cost management experience
- Experience of working as part of a commercial team, ensuring value for money and good governance on construction projects
- Knowledge of SAP would be an advantage but not essential as training can be provided
- Good communication skills and comfortable reporting to the Management Team as required
- Ability to analyse, interpret and present financial information to ensure appropriate business decisions are taken
- Ability to interpret and apply statutory and regulatory standards to achieve best business outcome
- Excellent IT skills are required in Excel, Word and Powerpoint
- Full driving licence and ability to travel frequently as per business requirements
