What you’ll be responsible for:

  • You will join a great team of Rangers whose aim is to make each reservoir a leading visitor attraction in the region.
  • You will assist the Visitor Experience Manager and team to safeguard and assist members of the public who visit the Reservoir, from Monday to Sunday during the open season.
  • You will be happy working outdoors in a beautiful setting, with an interest in wildlife and nature.

Some Key Duties:

  • Take part in the flexible team rota that will involve working up to any 5 days in 7 to include weekends and bank holidays during the season.
  • Ensure the safety of all persons on site; staff, contractors and visitors including anglers, walkers, cyclists, bird watchers etc.
  • Carry out grounds maintenance tasks, grass cutting and wildlife habitat management as instructed.
  • Maintain the upkeep and tidiness of the site, litter picking, gardening, cleaning, building upkeep, and maintenance of amenity routes and facilities, gates, styles, fences, signage.
  • Engage with visitors as an ambassador of Welsh Water, interpreting the wildlife, angling, and amenity features to enable visitors to enjoy their visit to the maximum.
  • Upsell events, activities and services offered at Llandegfedd.
  • Enforce the rules of the site and the waterside, especially the ‘no swimming in reservoirs’ rule, the opening and closing times to anglers.
  • Support in the provision of biodiversity, conservation and educational talks, public access, recreational activities and volunteer sessions, open days and events and angling competitions.
  • Carry out any other tasks as required for the effective management of the site, as directed by the Visitor Experience Manager.
  • Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

  • External: Members of public, Welsh Water customers, Local landowners and farmers

About You:

Essential Experience:

  • Practical health & safety experience
  • Rural estate and grounds maintenance experience

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Some vocational wildlife or environmental knowledge or specialism
  • Knowledge of water safety
  • Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day
  • Working with the general public
  • Ability to work on own initiative

Good to know:

  • Two positions available!
  • Driving licence and own transport is essential as Llandegfedd Lake is a remote site, not covered by public transport.
  • An enhanced DBS check will be required prior to start date for all successful applicants.
  • Llandegfedd Lake is open 7 days per week therefore regular weekend, and bank holidays working is essential.
  • This role is short term seasonal only (6 Months FTC APR-SEPT 2026), but winter ad-hoc work might also be available.
  • Starting (paid) training ASAP – onboarding will take at least 14 days.
  • Shifts are 8.30am-5pm but adjustments might be made to ensure you do not exceed 37 hours per week.
  • Rota provided one month in advance – working 5 days per week (out of any 7). Typically, you will be given two consecutive days off for each rotation.
  • Band 2 - £12.71/ hour.
