What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Support the Response Pod Team in delivering an efficient and effective 24/7 service with no avoidable failures in service delivery.
  • Respond to issues directed by Operational Response and Control teams, providing regular feedback to ensure risks are understood and customers are kept up to date.
  • Investigate, pinpoint faults and take action to resolve them, handling a wide variety of issues from single customer contacts to major failures of large diameter water mains.
  • Provide service to customers directly in response to urgent issues and ensure they are fully informed about what happens next.
  • Maintain all vehicles, plant and equipment so they are ready to deploy at all times, ensuring compliance with Water Quality and Safety standards.
  • Utilise emergency response equipment to restore supplies quickly while protecting water quality and the environment.
  • Support the delivery of planned work on the distribution network, following risk assessments, method statements and safety protocols, and carry out leakage detection and maintenance tasks to meet business targets.
  • Monitor contractor performance through inspections and safety conversations; review contractor RAMS, issue Permits to Work and Certificates of Isolation to enable works.
  • Carry out dynamic risk assessments on site to identify hazards and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and DCWW policies.
  • Perform routine daily vehicle checks to comply with the Road Traffic Act and DCWW Operators Licence, accurately recording and reporting defects.
  • Record all activities in corporate systems (SAP, PowerApps, Procedural Forms) to maintain an auditable record.
  • Take Water Quality samples from tankers and other temporary supplies, following procedures to ensure supplied water meets standards; coordinate logistics to deliver samples to the laboratory timely.
  • Assist the Operations Supervisor and Compliance Teams by ensuring HGV drivers’ hours are accurately recorded, monitored and never breached.
  • Ensure chlorination of tankers, bowsers and hoses is completed and recorded when necessary.
  • Communicate availability of tankers and kit to enable supply interruption mitigation.
  • Escalate driver changeovers or additional resource needs in a timely manner.
  • Escalate any water quality issues or risks immediately.
  • Participate in a standby rota and undertake any other duties required to meet business needs.

About you:

  • Good understanding of leakage identification and repair techniques; able to detect leakage both external to and internally within customers’ homes quickly and efficiently.
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge of domestic plumbing systems, appliances and fittings with a range of repair techniques and skills.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Enthusiastic about putting customers first every day.
  • Good interpersonal skills: building rapport, listening effectively.
  • Good communication skills: clear and concise.
  • IT skills including Microsoft Office, SAP Work Manager, TMJ, Geo Field, Vyntelligence, Water Core.
  • Current, full valid UK driving licence.

Shift Pattern:

  • 2 day shifts: 6:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • 2 night shifts: 6:00 pm – 6:00 am
  • Followed by 4 consecutive days off
  • Cycle repeats eight times, then an extended break of 18 consecutive days before the pattern restarts.
  • Annual leave is built into the rota and cannot be booked separately; flexibility to swap shifts or purchase additional leave in exceptional circumstances is possible.

Additional Requirements:

  • Shift working is an integral part of this role.
  • There is a 25% additional shift allowance payment on top of the base salary.
  • Post‑offer medical clearance, satisfactory references and a criminal records Basic Disclosure check are required for all new employees.
