What you’ll be responsible for
This role will include:
- Being part of a team that will be responsible for the 24/7/365 operation and maintenance of wastewater and sludge treatment plants ensuring compliance is maintained and throughput optimised.
- Working to agreed standards to ensure the organisation meets its health & safety, contractual, regulatory, operational and financial targets.
- Actively take part in risk assessments and COSHH assessments and working live to record routine and reactive tasks. Completing statutory tasks including Fire alarm, legionella, radiation box checks, and verification of Mcert requirements.
- Demonstrating ownership of process problems & managing the decision-making process as part of the shift activities whilst escalating any issues to the bronze manager.
- Proactively carrying out planned maintenance and operational checks to required standards.
- Identifying plant issues and troubleshoot faults, rectifying where possible or raising reactive tasks on SAP work manager and escalate to Senior Operator/Operations Supervisor.
- Undertaking sampling of designated processes within wastewater and AAD process areas as per instructions and undertaking process optimisation on the back of these results and recording any analysis in the site log / diary including taking action on any recommendations from science or other process specialists to maintain optimal compliance.
- Monitoring SCADA AAD and treatment for alarms, flows, levels and pressures within their specified process parameters, taking the required action to reduce plant failures and achieve optimisation of plant.
- Following and complying with all QMS procedures relating to the plant including all record keeping and sampling to demonstrate compliance and awareness of the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Biosolids Assurance Scheme (BAS).
- Undertaking training to be able to understand and deliver all requirements of our Competent Management System (CMS).
- Managing sludge levels ensuring that there is capacity for adequately desludging the WwTW. Liaising with the wider business wastewater teams and import / export contractors as necessary to ensure process is optimised and there is adequate import capacity available to receive sludges from satellite sites.
- Monitoring and maximising performance of Industrial Boilers and CHPs, liaising closely with the Energy Team and maintenance providers completing the required industrial boiler blowdown testing and daily inspections, sampling and boiler chemical dosing adjustment.
- Ensure that workplace inspections, health and safety reporting and statutory checks are undertaken (including radiation, legionella and Mcert flow tasks).
- Making daily adjustments to the Cambi THP process, with the associated responsibilities of working with high pressure steam and temperatures.
- For maintenance or reactive requirements ensure that CAMBI reactor or Boiler shutdowns are completed safely and are ready to be worked on.
- Complete Telehandler training and maintain safety records and checks on all associated equipment.

About you
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- NVQ 2 in Wastewater process / BTEC in Wastewater process
- Knowledge and experience of working with steam boiler systems and combined heat and power engines, internal training will be provided
- A good process aptitude is essential for this role to identify process/plant issues and troubleshooting problems in order to support the MEI team.
- Able to risk assess and adopt a safe working practice to undertake tasks
- Competency of working with gas and live steam apparatus
- Knowledge and use of interface systems
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- IT Literate conversant with Word, Excel, Outlook and app based systems

The successful candidate will be required to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, including nights
