We are looking for a Service Transition Manager to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital. You and your role:

As an Associate Service Transition Manager within DWP's Digital Channels Live Service Team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring new and updated IT services are introduced into live environments safely, smoothly and with minimal disruption. Working across delivery, operations and governance, you will support the end-to-end coordination of service transitions for critical, high-impact digital services. From early project involvement, you will help define service readiness, acceptance criteria and transition plans, ensuring all governance, risk and assurance requirements are met. You will coordinate resources, manage change through structured processes, and oversee service validation to protect stability and user experience. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, you will produce key documentation, assess readiness for live operation, and identify and manage risks and issues. Applying service management and project delivery principles, you will contribute to reliable, resilient services and drive best practice, supporting the continuous improvement of DWP's live digital estate.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Proven background/experience in recognised service management frameworks (such as ITIL), with the ability to apply them effectively in a live service environment.
  • Project Management & Delivery Methodologies: proven background/experience in project and delivery methodologies (such as Agile), with the ability to operate confidently across delivery teams, operational colleagues and governance forums.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: The ability to work confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, including project managers, IT operations, senior leaders and suppliers, explaining service readiness, risks and governance requirements clearly.
  • Risk Assessment & Assurance: Strong capability in identifying, assessing and managing service transition risks, particularly those affecting live services and BAU operations.
  • Planning, Coordination & Attention to Detail: Proven skill in coordinating complex activities across multiple teams, managing dependencies, timelines and deliverables. Able to demonstrate a structured, methodical approach to transition planning, documentation, change control and readiness assessments, with strong attention to detail.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle-upon-Tyne or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of £38,772.

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 24 days and rising to 26 days after one year. You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
