DWP Digital is looking for an experienced Content Designer to join our community of tech experts. We are using fresh ideas and leading-edge technology to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives. What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Substantial experience of designing accessible and plain English content and of contributing to content patterns, processes or guidelines.
  • Substantial experience of using quantitative and qualitative data to make content decisions.
  • Ability to use different types of prototypes to show, explain and test your content.
  • Substantial experience of peer review and of contributing to a community of practice.
  • Experience collaborating with other disciplines and advocating for the role of content design.
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders and influencing them to make more user-centred and evidence-based decisions.
  • Experience contributing to content strategies or initiatives to help your organisation achieve the right outcomes.

You and your role

Our Content Designers design and create clear, user-centred content that helps people understand and use government services. You will shape how information is structured across digital journeys, from GOV.UK pages and application forms to error messages, letters, and emails, always guided by user needs.

You will take a strategic role in solving complex problems, working with multidisciplinary teams to design effective user journeys, set standards, and promote good practice. You will build strong relationships to influence user-centred approaches, contribute to community-of-practice activities, and support recruitment and induction. You will also lead, coach, and develop other content designers.

Location: You will join us in one of our digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, or Sheffield.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you will spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of £57,946.

Pension: You will receive a civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at days rising to 31 days over time, plus up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time and all usual public holidays.
