What skills, knowledge and experience will you need? Knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services and Microservice Architectures. Demonstrable experience in developing on cloud-based environments such as AWS or Azure. A good understanding of Test Driven Development(TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development(BDD). Experience of SQL or NoSQL database applications such as Postgres, MySQL, and MongoDB. Experience and the skills to build up a useful, robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment environment. You and your role This is a role working on our payments products, so a background in payments would be helpful. But it\’s not a requirement. You will be building robust and accessible User Interfaces (UIs) that work for as many users as possible, regardless of their needs. You\’ll also be building and consuming APIs, with a focus on an API first design approach. We want our Software Engineers to work with freedom and autonomy. We write code and make design decisions which shape the future engineering landscape of DWP. We develop, build and support products and applications on multi-functional agile delivery teams, alongside researchers, analysts, designers, architects, testers and more. You\’ll be part of a thriving Engineering community of practice, supported by over 200 other engineering experts from across the UK, all united by passion and purpose. We want you to be at your best. We\’ll give you the tools and time to build your capability, with coaching, mentoring, qualifications and formal learning, meet-ups or whatever else works for you. Location: You\’ll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Manchester and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, whichever is most convenient for you. Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model – you\’ll spend some time working at home and sometime collaborating face to face in a hub. Pay: We offer pay of up to £58,347. Pension: You\’ll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £12,345 per year. Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days and rising to 31 days over time. You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You\’ll also get all the usual public holidays.
