We're looking for a skilled and driven Application Engineer to help build digital capability, lead complex product delivery, and enable successful outcomes within the Central Payment System (CPS) Application Development Work Programme. Your work will underpin critical digital initiatives across the organisation and support the creation of modern, innovative services that reshape and improve the way we make payments.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Demonstrable experience as an Oracle Developer with in-depth knowledge of E Business Suite Financial modules, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Payments, Sub Ledger Accounting, and Cash Management.
  • Collaborated with stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams to review requirements and uses these along with agreed standards and tools to design, code, test, correct and document programmes or scripts of medium to high complexity.
  • Able to co-ordinate build activities and understands how to support testing activities, including functional, integration and performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; able to quickly identify patterns across huge volumes of data to identify root cause analysis of high priority incidents/issues and propose appropriate resolution.
  • Extensive experience delivering robust Oracle E Business Suite solutions, including SQL/PLSQL development, OAF personalisation and extensions, Oracle Reports/XML Publisher, APIs, interfaces, web service integrations, workflow configuration and performance tuning to support secure, scalable enterprise applications.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in any of the following areas would also be helpful: Configuration Management, Java, Node.js, MongoDB, Oracle Advanced Queues (Streams).

You and your role

In this role, you'll work on the Central Payments System - a highly customised Oracle EBusiness Suite application underpinning payments and accounting for the Department's Benefits systems. You'll be responsible for maintaining, supporting, and enhancing complex customisations and integrations with the core Oracle platform. You'll be our trusted Oracle E-business expert, giving technical support, resolving issues and supporting system integrations and architectural decisions. You will be a skilled practitioner and a role model within our Application Operations community. You'll champion best practice across the department, guiding teams to deliver high-quality, reliable applications. You'll own the delivery, quality and performance of applications and software solutions. You'll work closely with Architecture and Engineering teams as we design stable, resilient, robust, and operationally sound Application services.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay from £57,946 - £68,205.

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £19,759 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time. You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
