Our Commercial Insurance team at DWF are currently hiring for a Solicitor – Property Damage to join our Edinburgh team.
The Commercial Insurance team work with a prestigious client base (including both Company and London Market Insurers) and handle a varied caseload of high-value complex property damage related disputes including commercial and household recoveries, property damage defence, product liability, construction and policy coverage.
This role will be based in our Edinburgh office on a flexible basis but with a general expectation of office attendance of around 2 days each week.
Responsibilities
- Manage your own caseload of high-value property damage related claims, including commercial and household recoveries, property damage defence, product liability, construction and policy coverage.
- Draft various legal documents including summons/writs, defences, motions.
- Attend hearings at the Court of Session and appear at hearings in the Sheriff Courts.
- Instruct and liaise with Counsel and Experts.
- Understand client requirements and manage cases in line with service level agreements and best practice.
- Analyse risk and further develop sound judgement enabling the justification of decisions to clients internally and externally.
- Prioritise work effectively and maximise efficiency in working practices.
- Understand individual role in the context of the practice group and proactively seek to contribute to increased efficiency in developing a case load appropriate to level of technical, legal knowledge.
- Build working relationships internally and externally to develop business networks and create a solid understanding of the Firm’s direction and client needs.
- Provide support and act as the ‘go to person’ for more junior members in the team.
What will help you succeed in this role?
Essential
- NQ – 3 years PQE experience and a strong interest in property damage work, with particular experience in insurance litigation and/or commercial litigation.
- Prior experience handling an insurance litigation and/or commercial litigation related caseload with a focus on commercial and household recoveries, property damage defence, product liability, construction and policy coverage.
- Technical expertise and a strong interest in Construction and Property Damage matters generally.
- A proven track record of delivering results within strict deadlines and timeframes.
