The Major Loss & Casualty team at DWF is one of the largest in Scotland and is nationally recognised. We act for a large number of well-known insurers, many of whom are household names, dealing with complex, major and large loss claims.

The Paralegal or Senior Paralegal role involves supporting on a range of high value files from £1m to £10m+ claims, with some exposure to commercial insurance work as required.

The team is based in Edinburgh and Glasgow, but we are open to candidates based throughout Scotland and are open to discussing hybrid working patterns for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting on a range of high value claims, including defender EL/PL, Motor, RTA, Fatal Accidents, Large Loss, Complex Loss, Catastrophic Loss, Serious Injury or Personal Injury claims.
  • Drafting pleadings, reports to clients, attending court hearings, working to court deadlines, conducting liability investigations, gathering evidence, instructing experts and considering medical causation.
  • Prioritising work effectively and maximising efficiency, adhering to court deadlines and directions, and complying with the client\’s service level agreements.
  • Building working relationships internally and externally to maintain client relationships, develop business networks and understand the Firm’s direction and client needs.
  • Supporting the team on commercial insurance files as required.

What will help you succeed in this role

  • Previous experience in defender EL/PL, Motor, RTA, Fatal Accidents, Large Loss, Complex Loss, Catastrophic Loss, Serious Injury or Personal Injury claims.
  • Technically experienced in and/or an interest in employer’s liability, public liability, RTA, and serious injury work.
  • Ideally experienced handling high value defender personal injury files either in your own right or as an assistant to more senior team members.
  • Familiar with working in a commercial environment.
