We are currently looking for a Paralegal to join the Complex Catastrophic Loss team in Liverpool. The Major Injury and Casualty team at DWF is one of the largest in the UK and is nationally recognised. We act for a large number of well-known insurers, many of whom are household names, dealing with complex, catastrophic and large loss claims. As Paralegal you will be assisting senior team members who deal with a range of high value cases; ranging up to £20 million in value. These cases comprise injuries of utmost severity including brain injury, spinal injury, amputations, polytrauma, brachial plexus injury, severe psychiatric injury and chronic pain. The role is based in Liverpool, and we are open to discussing flexible working patterns.
Responsibilities
- Assisting and providing support to senior team members who manage a multi-track catastrophic injury caseload.
- Drafting court documents, attending court hearings, working to court deadlines.
- Conducting liability investigations, gathering evidence, preparing advice to clients, identifying medical experts and preparing instructions.
- Reviewing medical records and other case related documents.
- General day to day administration tasks including keeping the case management system up to date and in line with client service level requirements.
- Providing the highest level of client care at all times.
Essential
- Previous experience assisting on a litigated caseload, ideally consisting of catastrophic injury, major loss, serious injury, or personal injury.
- A real interest in Employers Liability, Public Liability, RTA and catastrophic injury work.
- The ability to manage and prioritise tasks, whilst working to strict deadlines.
- The ability to work well as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable
- Basic to intermediate IT and keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and database programmes.
- Flexibility, willingness to learn on the job and to participate in learning and development opportunities.
