We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Associate with Health & Safety regulatory expertise to join our award‑winning, Tier 1 ranked Regulatory, Inquiries and Investigations team. This role offers the opportunity to advise on a broad range of high‑profile, complex and sensitive regulatory matters, representing clients across some of the most significant and sought‑after cases in the sector. As a Senior Associate at DWF, you will be part of a highly respected national practice, recognised for its technical excellence, collaborative culture and consistent track record of success. The role is ideally suited to candidates based in one of our regional offices, including Manchester, Birmingham or Leeds, with a flexible, hybrid working approach where needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Support on a range of investigations including maritime, serious incidents, workplace fatalities and corporate manslaughter.
- Defend clients facing investigation and criminal prosecution by regulatory bodies.
- Draft and review legal documents, including witness statements, investigation reports, and written submissions.
- Liaise with clients, regulators, and experts to gather information and evidence.
- Attend client premises, police stations and court hearings as required.
- Deal with Coronial proceedings.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the team to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Supervise, mentor and support the development of junior lawyers within the team.
What will help you succeed in this role?
Essential
- Qualified solicitor with experience working in a regulatory team.
- Relevant experience in regulatory and/or criminal health and safety law.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload effectively and efficiently.
- Analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using legal research tools and software.
- High level of professionalism and integrity.
- Experience in transport law, environmental law or public inquiries would also be of interest.
- Experience working for regulators, local authorities or with insurers would be considered in lieu of experience working in a regulatory team.
