DWF are seeking an experienced Master Mariner to join our global and expanding Marine team. The successful candidate will be involved with both a mix of wet and dry work using their sea going experience to full advantage. The role will involve: incident investigations on marine casualties, report writing and taking witness statements.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Master Mariner to join a law firm with a first class reputation in the market place. The role will suit somebody with exposure to maritime legal work in a shore-based position; however, Master Mariners that are at sea and looking for an opportunity ashore are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be based in London and expected to work with the international marine offices including Dubai, Hong Kong, Milan via Naples, Paris, Valencia and Vancouver.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate expertise in assisting generally in all types of marine cases as those matters progress to conclusion.
- Assist across all types of marine cases as matters progress toward resolution.
- Investigate marine casualties, including attending incident sites, taking witness statements, collating and analysing documentation.
- Assess collision/allision liability using technical and practical seagoing expertise.
- Review and advise on technical reports related to marine matters.
- Grow the marine casualty practice, supporting business development efforts.
- Deliver presentations to clients and speak at relevant industry conferences.
- Write articles on marine topics for clients, publications or marketing purposes.
- Collaborate with international marine offices, contributing to global caseload and knowledge-sharing.
