The DWF Global Risks team are currently seeking an ambitious Defamation, Privacy and Data Protection Associate/Solicitor (0-4 years PQE) with excellent technical and interpersonal skills to work in a growing and dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to one of our regional offices as weekly attendance is required for this role, on a hybrid basis. There will be occasional travel to our London office to meet with the team and clients. This role represents an exceptional opportunity to join an exciting team during a time of growth and get exposure to a wide range of Defamation, Reputation & Privacy and Data Protection claims. The work includes advising on all stages of the claims cycle from a pre‑action stage to litigated claims. Our work spans numerous jurisdictions, and our team is an important part of our global network.
Responsibilities
- Exhibit a high level of technical expertise and advise clients on defamation, privacy breach of confidence claims and data protection matters.
- Handle claims involving misuse of private information, breach of confidence and harassment.
- Advise on GDPR compliance, data subject rights, and regulatory obligations.
- Advise on takedown requests, online content removal, and reputation management strategies.
- Represent clients in proceedings and settlement negotiations.
- Understand client requirements and manage cases in line with service level agreements and best practice.
- Analyse risk and further develop sound judgement enabling the justification of decisions to clients internally and externally.
- Prioritise work effectively and maximise efficiency in working practices.
- Understand individual role in the context of the practice group and pro‑actively seek to contribute to increased efficiency in developing a case load appropriate to level of technical and legal knowledge.
- Build working relationships internally and externally to develop business networks and create a solid understanding of the firm’s direction and client needs – playing a pro‑active role in business development including writing articles, delivering presentations and facilitating seminars.
- Develop increased levels of technical and commercial knowledge via training or supervised working practices.
