Our nationally recognised Catastrophic Loss team at DWF (one of the largest in the UK) are currently recruiting for a qualified Associate Solicitor to join their team in Scotland. The team represent a wide range of leading insurers, specialising in complex, high value cases including Personal Injury, Serious Injury, Large Loss, Complex Loss, Catastrophic Loss, Motor, Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs), Employers’ Liability (EL), and Public Liability (PL) matters, with claim values ranging from £100,000 to £20 million.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing team handling some of the most challenging and rewarding cases in the industry with opportunities for progression. The role is hybrid and we can consider candidates that are able to attend either the Edinburgh or Glasgow offices.

Responsibilities

  • Working alongside the Partners and Senior Associate to manage a caseload of high value claims, comprising of a variety of defendant or claimant Personal Injury, Serious Injury, Large Loss, Complex Loss, Catastrophic Loss, Motor, Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs), Employers’ Liability (EL), and Public Liability (PL) matters ranging in value from £100,000 – £20m+.
  • Drafting pleadings, reports to clients, attending court hearings, working to court deadlines, liability investigations, gathering evidence, instructing experts and considering interesting medical causation issues.
  • Prioritising work effectively and maximising efficiency in working practices, adhering to court deadlines and directions, as well as the client's service level agreements.
  • Building working relationships internally and externally in order to maintain client relationships, develop business networks and create a solid understanding of the Firm’s direction and client needs.
  • Providing support and acting as the 'go to person' for more junior members in the team.

What will help you succeed in this role?

Essential Criteria:

  • 3+ PQE preferable within litigation and catastrophic injury, large loss or serious injury case experience, with case values over £100,000.
  • Technically experienced in and/or a real interest in Employers Liability, Public Liability, Motor and, Catastrophic Injury, Serious Injury, Personal Injury, Large Loss or Complex Loss work.
  • Ideally experienced handling high value defendant files either in your own right, or as an assistant to more senior team members.
  • Familiar with working in a commercial environment.
  • Legally Qualified and previous experience of working in Scotland is ESSENTIAL for this role.
