About the Role:
- Deliver high-quality, therapeutic, and evidence-based mental health care to children and young people.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care interventions that promote emotional wellbeing and positive outcomes.
- Support young people experiencing emotional distress, behavioural challenges, and mental health difficulties.
- Work collaboratively with residential staff, social workers, CAMHS professionals, families, and external agencies.
- Promote trauma-informed and child-centred approaches in all aspects of care.
- Monitor and manage risk, ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing remain central to practice.
- Provide guidance, support, and clinical advice to residential care staff.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical records and reports.
- Contribute to care planning, reviews, and multi-agency meetings.
- Support the development of a positive therapeutic environment within the home.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Conducting comprehensive mental health assessments and ongoing reviews.
- Developing and implementing person-centred care plans.
- Providing emotional support, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management where required.
- Monitoring medication administration and supporting medication management processes.
- Identifying, assessing, and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Supporting young people to develop coping strategies, resilience, and emotional regulation skills.
- Maintaining professional standards in accordance with the NMC Code of Practice.
- Participating in multidisciplinary meetings and contributing to outcome-focused care planning.
- Supporting staff through consultation, guidance, and reflective practice.
- Promoting positive mental health awareness across the service.
Essential Criteria:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) qualification.
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Minimum of 2 years' post-registration experience working within mental health services.
- Experience supporting children, adolescents, or vulnerable young people with mental health needs.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and safeguarding.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
- Flexibility to work day or night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays where required.
- Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of care.
- Willingness to travel to our homes across South London and surrounding areas.
Desirable:
- Experience working within residential children's services.
- Knowledge of CAMHS pathways and child and adolescent mental health presentations.
- Experience supporting young people with complex trauma, attachment difficulties, or neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Clinical supervision or mentoring experience.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Additional training in safeguarding, therapeutic interventions, risk management, or trauma-informed care.
