I'm partnering with a leading global insurer and reinsurer on the appointment of a Legal Counsel to join its UK legal team. This is a broad and highly visible role, offering the opportunity to work closely with senior business leaders on a wide range of legal, regulatory and commercial matters across multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to the business, supporting underwriting, product and leadership teams while helping to manage legal risk and deliver commercially focused solutions.
Key Responsibilities:- Advising on insurance and reinsurance matters across property, casualty and specialty lines.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating Lloyd's and Company Market policy wordings, delegated authority agreements and distribution arrangements.
- Supporting underwriting and product teams on governance, regulatory requirements and product development.
- Providing legal advice on coverage issues, disputes, sanctions and regulatory matters.
- Advising on commercial contracts and broader corporate legal issues.
- Supporting strategic business initiatives, projects and transactions.
- Developing legal guidance, training and best-practice documentation.
- Managing legal risk and coordinating with external counsel where required.
- Qualified lawyer with approximately 5-6+ years' PQE.
- Strong insurance and/or reinsurance legal experience gained in private practice or in-house.
- Good knowledge of UK insurance regulation and the Lloyd's market.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
- Commercially minded with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
- Comfortable building relationships and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
