Responsibilities
- Investigate product failures, non-conformances and performance issues using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, Root Cause Analysis and Fishbone Analysis.
- Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) to improve product reliability, safety and quality.
- Support Production, Quality, Service and Customer Support teams with technical troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Maintain and update engineering designs, 3D CAD models, drawings and Bills of Materials using SolidWorks, PDM and ERP/MRP systems.
- Assess and implement engineering changes (NCR, ECR and ECO) while minimising disruption to production and existing products.
- Analyse field performance data, warranty returns and test results to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Product Management teams to resolve cross-functional engineering challenges.
- Support product compliance activities, including risk assessments, safety reviews and adherence to relevant standards.
- Conduct and support testing and validation activities to verify corrective actions and design improvements.
- Produce clear technical reports and documentation to communicate findings, recommendations and outcomes.
Knowledge and Skills
- HND or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years' experience in a product design, development or sustaining engineering role.
- Proven experience in failure investigation, root cause analysis and engineering problem resolution.
- Industry experience within pumping systems, fluid technology, pipework or fabrication design environments.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems with exposure to electrical and control system integration.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD and PDM systems.
- Experience using engineering change management processes and maintaining configuration control.
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and engineering validation techniques.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, manufacturing processes, GD&T and DFMA principles.
- Experience using structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, FMEA or equivalent methodologies.
- Ability to analyse technical, field and test data to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Working knowledge of relevant safety, regulatory and product compliance requirements.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems; Sage experience would be advantageous.
