We are seeking an experienced Plant Operator/Commissioning Engineer with strong process knowledge and a solid technical background to play a key role during the commissioning and early operation of our plant based in Leeds. Immediate start available (subject to interview process). Salary Circa £50,000 per annum (depending on skills and experience). This is a hands-on position suited to someone who understands how plants really run and can confidently support, coordinate, and drive commissioning activities to successful completion. You will work closely with commissioning engineers, contractors, and equipment suppliers, acting as the operational focal point and ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and safely. There will be the possible opportunity to either become a senior role long term on this particular plant or move with our client to commission other plants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and actively drive the commissioning team, planning daily activities and priorities.
  • Provide rapid, practical responses to issues encountered during commissioning, including:
  • Organising equipment repairs
  • Ordering parts and consumables
  • Coordinating support from equipment suppliers
  • Arranging service visits and specialist assistance
  • Act as the primary operational link, keeping the Operations Director informed of progress, risks, and issues.
  • Source and interpret installation, commissioning, and operating documentation to support safe and effective commissioning.
  • Diagnose technical and process issues and develop well-considered solutions, drawing on previous operational experience where possible.
  • Develop a full and detailed understanding of how the plant operates, including process interactions and control philosophy.
  • Spend time in the control room operating the plant on an ad hoc basis to support commissioning and early operation.
  • Update plant documentation to "as-built" status, accurately reflecting modifications and changes made during commissioning.
  • About You

    • Proven experience as a plant operator or in a similar operational role within an industrial or process environment.
    • Strong process understanding and technical aptitude, with the ability to engage confidently with engineers and suppliers.
    • Practical, solution-focused mindset with the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
    • Well organised, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of issues.
    • Clear communicator, capable of providing concise and accurate updates to senior management.
    • Willingness to be hands-on, flexible, and involved wherever needed to ensure commissioning success.
