We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing Principal Contractor with a strong track record in the fit-out and construction sector. Originally established as an electrical contractor, the business has evolved over several decades into a full turnkey contractor, delivering projects through an in-house multi-disciplinary workforce.   • Hours: 45 hours per week (7:00am - 4:00pm)
  • Location: Office and site survey based

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Fit-Out Estimator to join the Commercial team and support ongoing growth within the business. This role would suit someone who is motivated, proactive, and comfortable working independently under pressure, while also contributing positively within a close-knit team. Previous experience in estimating within a Principal Contracting environment is essential, along with a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical services.

The successful candidate will attend site visits with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, representing the business professionally and confidently, including the ability to clarify and discuss bids directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing fully compliant and competitive quotations based on tender documentation
  • Producing accurate take-offs from drawings, including labour and material allowances
  • Liaising with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to compile complete and inclusive estimates
  • Attending site and tender walkthroughs to review drawings, identify risks, and propose practical solutions
  • Coordinating supplier and subcontractor pricing to achieve best value for bid submissions
  • Producing tender and pre-construction programmes, scopes, and clarifications
  • Issuing RFIs to resolve unclear specifications or documentation
  • Supporting tender reviews, handover meetings, pre-construction meetings, and project close-out sessions
  • Providing a structured handover to the Contracts team following successful bid conversion

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven background in fit-out contracting and/or estimating
  • Experience producing estimates and quotations from tender documents
  • Strong understanding of building regulations
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Confident communicator, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and MS Project (or similar systems)
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend site and tender walkthroughs across the UK
