Dutton Recruitment (Sheffield Engineering) are currently recruiting for an Engineering Manager for a permanent position based with our client in Doncaster. Immediate start available (subject to interview process). Salary is £50,000 to £80,000 per annum (depending on experience). This will be working Monday to Thursday 8am-5pm & Friday 8am - 4:30pm.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the operational management, performance and development of the engineering function, leading the CAD Technicians and Product Development Team to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality engineering solutions that meet business and customer requirements. Reporting to the Engineering Director, the role manages engineering design, product development, technical support and resource planning, while driving continuous improvement and supporting the company's growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead, manage and develop the Engineering Department, ensuring engineering resources, capabilities and workloads are effectively planned to support business objectives and project delivery. Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and professional development through effective leadership, coaching and performance management.
  • Engineering Operations & Delivery: Oversee the delivery of engineering activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, within budget and in accordance with customer and business requirements. Provide technical leadership and governance across the engineering function, including the review and approval of engineering designs, technical documentation, engineering standards and change control processes. Act as the primary engineering interface with Production, Projects, Service, Quality, Procurement and Sales teams, ensuring effective communication and resolution of technical challenges.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Implement and maintain the standardisation of machine drawings and practices. Lead new product development, product improvement, innovation, efficiency and business growth. Drive process improvements, capacity planning, efficiency initiatives, collaborating with all internal stakeholders to improve workflow and output.
  • Business Performance & Compliance: Monitor engineering performance, capacity, risks and resource requirements, supporting budgeting, investment planning and the effective utilisation of engineering resources. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, quality, environmental and regulatory requirements while promoting engineering best practice throughout the department.
  • Strategic Support: Represent the Engineering function in project reviews, technical meetings, customer interactions and business planning activities. Deputise for the Engineering Director where required and undertake any other duties reasonably aligned with the objectives of the role.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Proven experience in an engineering leadership role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or related Engineering discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design principles, standards and best practices, with the ability to review and approve engineering designs and technical documentation.
  • Experience managing engineering resources, priorities and workloads.
  • Experience working in a project-based manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and CAD systems such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of engineering change control and document management processes.
  • Experience in machinery design and manufacture.
  • Experience implementing engineering process improvements.
