10 hours per week, part-time (Wednesday required, with selected evenings and weekends to support fixtures, events and campaigns)

Purpose of the Role

Working under the direction of the Marketing Coordinator, you'll support the creation of high-quality, engaging digital content that showcases Team Durham through authentic storytelling.

You'll capture the people, performances and moments that define our student sport community, helping to elevate our presence across Instagram, Tik Tok and You Tube Shorts.

This is a varied, fast-paced role where no two days are the same.

We're looking for someone who can spot stories, respond to trends and confidently create polished, engaging content that reflects the Team Durham brand.

Responsibilities

Real Living Wage rate

Under instruction from colleagues in the department/project/area and following appropriate training, responsibilities include:

Covering content requests from all areas of the university, usually including but not limited to:

  • Photography,
  • Videography,
  • Basic Livestreaming,
  • Editing recorded content to a high standard.

Delivering content on time as requested by departments.

Work will be closely supervised initially to ensure a certain standard of content is delivered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture authentic moments that showcase the culture, personalities and achievements of Team Durham.
  • Film and edit high-quality photo and video content across training sessions, fixtures, events and campaigns.
  • Create engaging short-form content for Instagram, Tik Tok and You Tube Shorts.
  • Present confidently on camera, introducing events, interviewing students and athletes, and helping bring Team Durham stories to life.
  • Write engaging copy and publish content across Team Durham's social media platforms.
  • Identify creative content opportunities and contribute innovative ideas that enhance our digital presence.
  • Stay up to date with social media trends and adapt them appropriately for Team Durham.
  • Work efficiently to produce high-quality content, including during live events and fast-paced competition environments.
  • Support content creation on Wednesdays and selected evenings and weekends throughout the academic year.
  • Mentoring and ongoing feedback from the Marketing Coordinator, with opportunities to develop professional content creation skills.
  • Practical experience creating social-first content in a fast-paced sporting environment for one of the UK's leading university sports programmes.
  • Building a professional portfolio of photography, videography and digital content produced for a recognised university brand.
  • Developing an understanding of social media strategy, audience engagement, analytics and trend-led content creation.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with student clubs, athletes and University staff while contributing to Team Durham's digital presence.
  • Additional personal development opportunities with Durham University partners (for example: The British Film Institute).

The successful candidate will demonstrate

  • Experience creating high-quality short-form content for social media.
  • Excellent filming, editing and storytelling skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of sport and/or the university sport environment.
  • Confidence both behind and in front of the camera, including presenting and interviewing.
  • A strong understanding of current social media trends and platform best practice.
  • Creativity, initiative and the ability to identify engaging stories and content opportunities.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to work efficiently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to work every Wednesday and selected evenings and weekends.
  • Experience creating content for a sports organisation, university or brand.
  • Experience covering live sport or events.
  • Experience in writing engaging social media copy and publishing content across platforms.

Create a content plan (maximum two pages) outlining how you would tell the story of the day across Instagram, Tik Tok and You Tube Shorts to our audience.

Your submission should include

  • Your overall approach to capturing the day, from the build-up through to the final result, ensuring the audience feels part of the journey.
  • Outline a minimum of three pieces of content you would create on the day, including any content you would capture for use in the days and weeks following the event.
  • An example caption for one of your social media posts/reels that you would post on event day.
  • Any additional creative ideas that you believe would help showcase Team Durham, engage our audience and elevate our social media presence on BUCS Big Wednesday.

We're looking for creativity, originality and a strong understanding of social-first storytelling.

We're more interested in your ideas, planning and creative thinking than polished design.
