Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high quality research that is original, significant and rigorous.
- Develop clear plans for securing national and international funding and fostering end‑user engagement.
- Play a role in teaching and research supervision at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels.
- Contribute to curriculum development and design/downloading high‑quality online and blended learning programmes using digital pedagogies and technologies.
- Enhance the research environment through collaborative research activity across the Department, the University and beyond.
- Engage in the administrative work, citizenship and values of the Department.
- Deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials, and participate in assessment activities.
- Attract and supervise research students and support the Department’s inclusive postgraduate culture.
- Carry out other duties as specified by the Head of Department.
- Support a reduced probation period of one year, thereafter a conditional confirmation of a permanent position.
Qualifications
- Research
- Ph D and a good first degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Machine Learning, Computer Science or a related field.
- Demonstrated capacity for independent, internationally excellent research with world‑class potential.
- Evidence of high‑quality outputs (four published papers or equivalent evidence of peer‑reviewed work).
- Personal research plan that strengthens the Department’s focus on computational or data‑driven methods. (Submission of research papers and other evidence is required.)
Education
- Proven development and delivery of high‑quality, engaging teaching in psychology.
- Evidence of effective teaching practice, e. g. student evaluation scores or peer reviews.
- Experience in curriculum innovation, new programme development and the use of technology to enhance learning.
- Services, Citizenship and Values
- Experience of engaging in administrative and citizenship activities (committee membership, outreach, recruitment, professional bodies, community involvement).
- Leadership experience in supporting departmental management or university initiatives.
- Demonstrated collegiality and collaboration with others to support a positive, inclusive environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences.
Desirable Criteria
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or equivalent.
- Experience in designing and delivering successful online or blended learning, employing innovative digital pedagogy.
- Experience in providing Ph D supervision.
- Evidence of research impact, translation to practice, industry or policy partners.
- Experience leading research groups or mentoring early‑career researchers.
- Evidence of successful research grant proposals or projects that generate income for the university.
