The Role and Department
The purpose of this position is to assist Durham University in developing research impact strategies to enhance societal benefits and support the development and submission of impact case studies, engagement measures, and narrative statements for the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
The post-holder will interpret REF impact rules and regulations, provide advice and guidance to academic leaders and researchers, and support impact and engagement activities to achieve broad, rigorous, and significant research impact.
Working with academics, professional support colleagues, and the Impact & Engagement team, the post-holder will help develop a community of practice to facilitate high-quality impact evidence collection and impact case study development. They will engage in activities to optimize impact potential and support the critique and writing of impact case studies across faculties.
The role involves recording impact data in IT systems, encouraging departments to share impact-related information, and supporting reporting for REF, KEF, HE-BCI, and other requirements.
The post-holder will also identify and address challenges in impact and knowledge exchange.
Key duties include:
- Supporting academics and staff in using systems to capture impact data, fostering a culture of impact and knowledge exchange.
- Embedding impact into research practices and communicating impact effectively, including preparing impact case studies for REF2029.
The position is permanent, part-time (0.5 FTE), based primarily at the new professional services hub at Boldon House near Durham, which promotes collaborative and hybrid working environments.
