Job Overview
Durham University\’s John Snow College is currently looking to appoint several Bar Assistants for the 2022/2023 academic year.
Core Responsibilities:
- Complete a defined set of tasks or procedures to deliver a responsive service to students, staff, and visitors.
- Follow instructions from managers or supervisors and standard operating procedures to ensure beverages and food are appropriately produced, presented, served, and replenished.
- Learn the correct methods and tasks on the job.
- Adhere to general health, safety, and security procedures within the service area, including departmental systems for health & safety and food safety.
- Use a range of equipment, tools, and resources as necessary.
- Assist team members in delivering frontline catering services to students, staff, and visitors.
- Attend relevant training courses.
- Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment in the bar.
- Assist with college events held in the bar.
Role Responsibilities:
- Share beverage, menu, and food product knowledge, including answering questions about allergens and dietary requirements.
- Anticipate and proactively assist the needs of students, staff, and visitors.
- Learn to use task-specific manual and specialist tools to deliver services.
- Work in accordance with risk assessments and departmental procedures for health & safety and food safety.
- Assist with basic audit and stock control tasks.
- Wear and use personal protective equipment and clothing, including uniform, as directed.
- Accept payments and handle cash securely.
- Report feedback to your line manager.
- Ensure all licensing objectives are adhered to at all times.
- Keep the bar and food service areas, including the cellar, clean and tidy, ready for next service.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as required.
