The post is in the Durham Quantum Light and Matter group, working on quantum‑enhanced sensing with atoms and molecules. The goal is to synthesise designer quantum systems particle by particle using optical tweezers arrays to trap and manipulate ultracold RbCs molecules.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and present research findings through presentations, discussions, and meetings.
- Write research results and produce reports and publications in a clear, accurate manner.
- Analyse or undertake basic research, selecting appropriate methodologies for the context and objectives.
- Identify and solve problems that may affect research objectives and deadlines.
- Liaise with colleagues internally and externally to build future research collaborations.
- Contribute to research project planning.
- Support student projects, providing training and guidance on research methods and equipment.
- Foster a collegial, respectful, inclusive working environment.
- Engage in wider citizenship activities supporting the department and discipline.

Qualifications and Experience
- A good first degree in physics or a related subject.
- A Masters in physics or a related subject.
- Experience in conducting basic academic research (e.g., final‑year projects or research internships) or providing research assistance.
- Demonstrable ability to produce concise, well‑written reports for a range of stakeholders (including LaTeX).
- Proficiency in a widely‑used programming language and its application to scientific problems.
- Keen interest in AMO physics, with knowledge of experimental methods for manipulating ultracold atoms and molecules.
- Demonstrable ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- PhD in Physics or a related subject, or close to submission.
- Experience of conducting high‑quality academic research and preparing academic papers.
- Experience presenting at scientific conferences.
- Ability to assist and support student projects.
- Experimental research experience in ultracold atoms or molecules is highly desirable.
- Ability to contribute to planning and management of independent research.
