Overview

Essential Criteria – You must be a scheme member of the Durham County Council Pension Fund or have capacity to represent scheme members of the Fund. No officer of the Administering Authority who is responsible for the discharge of any function of the Administering Authority under the Regulations may serve as a member of the Board. Durham County Council in its capacity as administering authority of the £3.9bn Durham County Council Pension Fund is seeking to appoint new representatives to its Local Pensions Board. This is an exciting opportunity to oversee the activity of the Fund and ensure sound governance, on behalf of the Fund’s 65,000 scheme members.

Role of the Local Pension Board

Durham County Council is the Administering Authority of the Durham County Council Pension Fund (part of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)), and as such is responsible for administering the Pension Fund – this includes managing the investments, collecting and investing contributions and paying scheme benefits.

The Local Pension Board\’s role is to assist the Administering Authority in its role as a scheme manager of the Pension Fund. Such assistance is to:

  • secure compliance with the Regulations, any other legislation relating to the governance and administration of the Scheme, and requirements imposed by the Pensions Regulator in relation to the Scheme and;
  • to ensure the effective and efficient governance and administration of the Scheme.

Local Pension Board Membership

The Local Pension Board is made up of four pension scheme member representatives and four employer representatives. We are seeking a new scheme member representative who must be a scheme member of the Durham County Council Pension Fund or have capacity to represent scheme members of the Fund. You must have the capacity to attend four meetings a year and all training requirements. All training will be funded, and reasonable expenses will be paid.
