We have an exciting opportunity for Casual Duty Managers to join our team at The Story, Durham.

Overview

The Story brings some of the most important historic collections in the region together to celebrate the rich history of County Durham in the grade II listed Mount Oswald House, which has been transformed into a new heritage hub. Discovering personal and local histories will be easier than ever before through family friendly exhibitions and events, new research facilities and cutting-edge digital tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and motivate a team to ensure every visit to The Story is smooth and inspired.
  • Handle sales and cash, provide directions to services around the building, and assist users in the digital research area.
  • Deliver short public tours, develop rotas, promote donations, facilitate events, and collect essential data.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to work towards it.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety issues, awareness of security and evacuation procedures.

Hybrid Working

Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion; alternatively you can work all contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
