The predicted salary is between 22 - 32 £ per hour.

Durham Arts Council (DAC) holds eleven weeks of camp each summer, including a series of Mini Camps, Cultural Camps, and Teen Intensives. We are seeking contracted Performing Arts and Visual Art Instructors who have several years of experience as an arts educator or teaching artist.

Our preference is to contract visual teachers who can teach all three Visual Track areas: 2-D dry (collage, drawing, fiber arts, etc.) and wet media (painting, printmaking, mixed media, etc.), as well as 3-D sculpture (can include ceramics) and performing teachers who can teach in a variety of performance areas including dance, music, and/or theatre.

Campers will be divided into groups of a maximum of 16 campers each, and the groups will rotate through teachers’ classrooms within their track each day. Supplies are provided by the DAC. Camp Instructors design their own curriculum and prep all activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Bachelor’s of Fine Arts or an arts related teaching degree is preferred.

Camp instructor positions are independent contract positions that pay $27/hour. Applicants must be available from 7:45am – 3:15pm during any of the following camp weeks, Monday through Friday:

  • Performing Arts Teachers: July 6-17 (2 weeks), Cultural Camp: Talented Thailand, Creative Kids (ages 5-6) July 27 – August 7 (2 weeks), Cultural Camp: Splendid Scotland, Creative Kids (ages 5-6) -or- Performing Track–Dance (ages 7-12) –or- Performing Track–Music (ages 7-12)
  • Visual Art Teachers: July 6-17 (2 weeks), Cultural Camp: Talented Thailand, Creative Kids (ages 5-6) July 27 – August 7 (2 weeks), Cultural Camp: Splendid Scotland, Creative Kids (ages 5-6) –or– Visual Track–2D Dry Media (ages 7-12) –or– Visual Track–2D Wet Media (ages 7-12) August 10-14, Mini Camp: America 250 – Durham’s Common Ground (ages 5-12) August 17-21, Mini Camp: America 250 – Durham’s Common Ground (ages 5-12)

Optional opportunities are often available for subbing other weeks of camp or the extended day program, Afternoon Adventures, from 3-5:30pm.
