At Duratec Roofing, successful projects begin with great planning and relationships. As our Commercial Roofing Estimator, you’ll play a central role in securing profitable commercial roofing and refurbishment projects by producing accurate, competitive and technically considered tenders.
You’ll take ownership of your own tenders, working directly with the Managing Director and delivery team—from reviewing enquiries and visiting sites through to pricing, negotiations and project handover. This is a brand-new position and our first dedicated estimating role. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape the department, improve our systems and influence how Duratec assesses, prices and secures future work.
As the business grows, there is genuine potential to progress into an Estimating Manager or Head of Estimating position, helping recruit and lead the future estimating team.
What you’ll do:
- Review enquiries, drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documents
- Visit sites to take measurements and assess access, logistics and project constraints
- Develop suitable roofing solutions with clients, surveyors, manufacturers and the delivery team
- Prepare accurate labour, material, plant, access, preliminary and subcontractor costs
- Issue enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors, follow up responses and resolve discrepancies
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, technical risks and value-engineering opportunities
- Produce clear, competitive and commercially sound quotations and tender submissions
- Follow up tenders and support client negotiations through to decision
- Maintain accurate tender records, assumptions, revisions and pipeline information
- Prepare comprehensive handover information for secured projects
- Review tender outcomes and completed-project costs to improve future pricing
- Help develop Duratec’s estimating systems, rate library and tender processes
What we’re looking for:
- Previous estimating experience within roofing, waterproofing, construction or another specialist trade
- The ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and tender documents
- A good understanding of construction methods and tendering processes
- Strong knowledge of labour, materials, plant, access and subcontractor costs
- Commercial awareness with strong numerical and analytical skills
- Confidence identifying inconsistencies, questioning unclear information and proposing solutions
- The ability to manage several tenders and competing deadlines
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Competence with Microsoft Excel, Word and digital estimating or project systems
- A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to attend sites across the South East is preferred
- A proactive, organised and collaborative approach with excellent attention to detail
Direct commercial roofing experience would be ideal. However, we would also consider an experienced roofing contracts manager, surveyor or technically strong roofing professional who is ready to develop the commercial side of their career.
What you’ll get:
- Salary of £45,000–£55,000, depending on experience
- Company bonus
- Training and continuous development
- Direct access to the company’s decision-maker
- The opportunity to shape a newly created role and department
- Genuine potential to progress into an estimating leadership position
- A visible and influential role within a growing commercial roofing business
- A supportive team with the freedom to introduce better ways of working
