The Layout Artist is responsible for the implementation of assets and cameras in a 3D scene. You will be able to create a cinematic vision based on the storyboards or 3D previz while preserving the original intent of the Director. You’ll work in collaboration with the director/leads to establish the camera angle, lighting and point of view of each shot of an animated sequence. They are the stylistic and technical eye of the entire shot, as well as choreographers of character action.

Your part in it:

  • Working from the storyboard to set up layout of animation
  • Researching the genre, reference shots and style of project
  • Creating backgrounds that support the narrative of the story
  • Sequence level lighting of the environment
  • Ensuring continuity between shots
  • Experimenting with camera angles, layout and lighting to arrive at the best shots possible
  • Working efficiently and keeping scenes clean

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years Layout Artist experience in visual effects for long form
  • Have a good eye for image composition (direction) and good knowledge of cameras
  • Good knowledge of Houdini Solaris or similar node based package (Katana, Gaffer)
  • Maya layout and animation skills are a bonus
  • Basic understanding of USD is a bonus
