Looking for a leadership role where you can genuinely make a difference, without sacrificing your work‑life balance? At Dunslow Road Veterinary Surgery, we’re looking for a Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon to shape clinical standards, mentor a supportive team, and enjoy genuine clinical autonomy within a proudly independent practice. With a 4-day week, no out‑of‑hours duties, and just one Saturday morning in five, this role combines hands‑on clinical work with personal time and leadership influence.
About Us Established in 2009 by Practice Owner Richard, our practice has grown through strong client relationships, compassionate care, and a commitment to practical, patient‑focused veterinary medicine. Many of our clients have trusted us with their pets since day one, something we’re incredibly proud of. We’re a genuinely close‑knit team where collaboration comes naturally. Vets and nurses work side by side, clinical discussion is encouraged, and there’s always someone ready with a second opinion or a helping hand when needed. Regular team meals and socials mean the supportive atmosphere extends well beyond the consulting room.
Our veterinary team brings together experience, curiosity, and a shared enthusiasm for learning. Richard has a particular interest in surgery and continues to provide clinical support. Ania enjoys working with small furries, and Juliette has a growing interest in imaging. Amy joined us in 2025 as a new graduate and is building confidence across all areas, with a developing interest in exotics. You’ll be supported by two experienced Head Nurses who share their leadership role, alongside a skilled nursing and reception team who play an active part in patient care and help keep the day running smoothly.
Our practice is well‑equipped with digital radiography, Adaptix 3D imaging, ultrasound, an iM3 dental unit, and an IDEXX in‑house laboratory, including SediVue and InVue microscopy. We also benefit from visiting orthopaedic and ultrasound specialists and strong relationships with local referral hospitals.
The Role — Clinical Leadership With Real Influence We’re excited to welcome a Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon who will help guide our clinical direction while supporting and developing the people around them. This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping the next chapter of the practice, working alongside a collaborative leadership team that values ideas, openness, and shared decision‑making. You’ll step into a genuinely influential position, taking ownership of clinical standards while continuing to enjoy a varied and rewarding clinical caseload. There is real scope to develop your own interests, introduce new ideas, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of services within the practice.
If you’re currently a Senior Vet, Clinical Director, or an experienced vet ready for leadership, and enjoy mentoring colleagues and fostering learning, this could be the perfect role for you. You’ll value teamwork and clear communication and want the autonomy to help shape a positive clinical culture.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing clinical leadership and day‑to‑day support to the veterinary team
- Developing and evolving clinical protocols and best practices
- Mentoring and coaching colleagues at different stages of their careers
- Holding regular vet one‑to‑ones and supporting professional development
- Encouraging case discussion, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Maintaining excellent patient care while helping shape future clinical services
Sustainable Leadership with Real Balance We understand that experienced vets want a sustainable career, and taking on a leadership role shouldn’t come at the cost of your personal time or work‑life balance. That’s why we offer:
- 4‑day week (8:00–17:00 or 9:00–18:00), with a fixed day off
- One Saturday morning in five (8:30–13:00)
- No out‑of‑hours, Sundays, or bank holidays
- OOH and inpatient care covered by a local hospital
Salary & Benefits
- Salary up to £80,000 DOE
- 6.6 weeks annual leave (including bank holidays)
- Generous CPD allowance and support for certificates
- Webinar Vet practice membership
- RCVS & VDS fees paid
- Westfield Health Cash Plan, which provides cash back on health and wellbeing services
- Staff pet care discounts
- Regular team socials & meals out
