Title: Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias)

Location: Durham

Salary: Up to £50,000

Industry: Food Manufacturing

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:30am/7:30am - 3:00pm

Key Maintenance Engineer Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across production and site equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults to minimise production downtime.
  • Act as the lead engineer on site, providing day-to-day technical guidance and support to the engineering team (no direct reports).
  • Ensure machinery is operating safely, efficiently, and to the required production standards.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections, fault finding, and equipment health checks.
  • Order, fit, and replace components and spare parts as required.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager to improve equipment reliability and site performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machine efficiency and reduce recurring faults.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete quality inspections on all engineering work.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of Health & Safety, food safety, and hygiene across the site.

Maintenance Engineer Requirements

Essential

  • Maintenance Engineer with recognised electrical qualifications.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (or equivalent) is essential.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding and maintenance experience.
  • Previous experience within a food manufacturing, FMCG, or similar production environment.
  • Ability to prioritise planned maintenance alongside reactive breakdowns.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work independently while leading engineering activities on shift.

Desired

  • Time-served apprenticeship in Electrical or Maintenance Engineering.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience leading or mentoring small engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and equipment reliability techniques
