Key Day Engineer Responsibilities:
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across all production and site services equipment
- Schedule and complete servicing, inspections, and repairs to a high standard, ensuring full compliance and accurate record keeping
- Maintain and operate site services including boilers, compressed air systems, chilled water, and effluent treatment
- Support installation, commissioning, and relocation of machinery and equipment
- Work closely with production teams to identify and deliver efficiency improvements and reduce downtime
- Participate in root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions
- Ensure all work is completed in line with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards
- Adhere to GMP standards and promote a “clean as you go” culture
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential:
- Multi-skilled engineer with strong electrical and mechanical competencies
- Recognised engineering qualification (e.g. Apprenticeship, ONC, City & Guilds, 17th/18th Edition)
- Ability to carry out both reactive and preventative maintenance
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in an FMCG manufacturing environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels
- Understanding the importance of accurate record keeping (quality, food safety, H&S)
- Proactive attitude with a strong team working ethic
Desirable:
- Experience working within an FMCG or food manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards such as BRCGS
- Experience working with site services (boilers, air systems, chilled water, effluent)
- Experience supporting installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects
- Formal mechanical qualification (in addition to electrical bias)
- Experience working to retailer standards
- Continuous improvement mindset (lean / efficiency focused)
