We are urgently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Estimator. This is a full time temporary role in the first instance. Hybrid working in the office 3 days and home 2 days (optional).

Purpose of role

  • To oversee the pricing of work and the management of the tendering process
  • To secure work packages in line with budgetary and business strategies
  • To secure and develop new business opportunities in line with regional initiatives
  • Understand and assist in the development of department plan where applicable and aid in the implementation of the agreed commercial strategy
  • Communicate with departmental team to ensure business strategy is cascaded using relevant tools inc. encourage feedback, line of sight, balanced scorecard and area monthly updates.
  • To initiate tendering process and obtain material and subcontract prices
  • Negotiate contracts, taking an overview looking for commercial opportunity secure budgeted turnover and volume at chosen margin
  • To undertake appraisal of completed tenders
  • Maintain records of tender success/failures
  • Develop and influence all bid strategies
  • Ensuring successful completion of tenders by estimators
  • Win work at profitable margins in line with the budget and market share

Knowledge:

  • Educated to HNC/HND level or equivalent
  • IOSH
  • Member of RICS, or ICES
  • Experience of customer service or client liaison

  • Numeracy and literacy proficiency
  • Attention to detail
  • Understanding of surfacing and civil engineering procedures
  • Specification requirements
