Catering Assistant – Wakefield (Temporary)

Our client is looking for a Catering Assistant on a temporary contract based in Wakefield. The role involves serving customers in a polite and friendly manner, basic food preparation, ensuring the kitchen service and seating areas are kept clean, tidy and safe at all times.

Responsibilities

• Serve customers in a polite and friendly manner.
• Prepare basic food items.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen service and seating areas.
• Use till system, coffee machines, and assist in kitchen operations.
• Work on a rolling 4‑week rota, including 3 weekends per month.
• Follow working hours 08:30 – 16:30.

Essential Requirements

• Experience delivering visitor services in a busy catering or hospitality environment.
• Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake training.
• Experience with retail/cash transactions and operating tills.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Excellent customer care skills with a customer‑centred approach.

Desirable Skills

• NVQ Level 1 Hospitality/Catering qualification or equivalent.
• First Aid certification.
• Experience in working large functions.
• Basic record‑keeping experience.
• Health and Safety awareness and training.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation: DDA, Food Hygiene, Health and Safety.
• Good numeracy and cash handling skills.
• Polite and friendly towards clients, customers and colleagues.
• Self‑motivation, commitment and enthusiasm; ability to work calmly under pressure.
