We are recruiting an experienced LGV Waste Collection Driver (Class 2 / Category C) to join a household waste collection service operating across the borough. This is a key operational role working as part of a multi-disciplinary council services team, ensuring daily waste collection routes are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with community priorities.
Contracted Hours: Tuesday to Friday, 37 hours per week, Daily hours: 09.25 per day, Temporary shift pattern: 6:00am - 3:45pm until 24th April
Role Responsibilities:
- Drive and operate a 26-tonne refuse collection vehicle
- Lead and supervise waste collection crews on daily routes
- Ensure completion of daily collection schedules
- Manage operational records via paper systems or electronic handheld devices
- Full responsibility for Health & Safety compliance on daily tasks
- Ensure safe collection of bins and public safety along routes
- Operate mechanical lifting and refuse equipment
- Maintain cleanliness, security, and daily checks of vehicle and equipment
- Deliver high standards of customer service when interacting with residents
- Report issues, hazards, or service problems to supervisors/managers
- Support training and safe working practices for crew members
Essential Requirements:
- Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) Licence
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
- Experience driving LGV vehicles in operational environments
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety procedures
- Ability to supervise and lead small operational teams
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Desirable (or willingness to undertake):
- Manual Handling training
- IOSH Working Safely
- Needle Stick awareness training
- Experience in waste management or local authority services
