We are recruiting an experienced LGV Waste Collection Driver (Class 2 / Category C) to join a household waste collection service operating across the borough. This is a key operational role working as part of a multi-disciplinary council services team, ensuring daily waste collection routes are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with community priorities.

Contracted Hours: Tuesday to Friday, 37 hours per week, Daily hours: 09.25 per day, Temporary shift pattern: 6:00am - 3:45pm until 24th April

Role Responsibilities:

  • Drive and operate a 26-tonne refuse collection vehicle
  • Lead and supervise waste collection crews on daily routes
  • Ensure completion of daily collection schedules
  • Manage operational records via paper systems or electronic handheld devices
  • Full responsibility for Health & Safety compliance on daily tasks
  • Ensure safe collection of bins and public safety along routes
  • Operate mechanical lifting and refuse equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness, security, and daily checks of vehicle and equipment
  • Deliver high standards of customer service when interacting with residents
  • Report issues, hazards, or service problems to supervisors/managers
  • Support training and safe working practices for crew members

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) Licence
  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
  • Experience driving LGV vehicles in operational environments
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety procedures
  • Ability to supervise and lead small operational teams
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Manual Handling training
  • IOSH Working Safely
  • Needle Stick awareness training
  • Experience in waste management or local authority services
