Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide high‑quality technical service, including cost estimates and timescales for jobs and materials.
  • Perform routine laboratory support: media and buffer preparation, fermenter preparation, equipment calibration, waste disposal, etc.
  • Operate and maintain general and specialist technical equipment; participate in developing, testing and constructing new equipment or techniques.
  • Commission experimental apparatus, conduct testing, record and disseminate data.
  • Offer technical advice and training to staff, students and visitors while ensuring health and safety compliance.
  • Contribute to short‑term projects within the work area or as part of larger project teams.
  • Maintain awareness of health and safety rules, perform risk assessments, maintain training records, liaise with the School Safety Officer.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned that are commensurate with the role.

Essential qualifications:

  • Higher National Diploma in a biological subject (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working in a biological laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practice and health.
