Payroll & People Services Assistant
The role will sit within the People Services function reporting to the Payroll Lead. The People Services function is responsible for the end-to-end administration of the colleague lifecycle including key areas such as:
- Contract Production/Amends
- Leaver Processing
- All Statutory Leave Processing (SMP/SPP/SSP)
- Statutory Returns (P11D, P60, P45)
- Pension Governance & Administration
- Minimum Wage Compliance
- Payroll Processing for 12,000 colleagues
- Fleet Administration Processes
The team are responsible for the timely production of all payroll activity always ensuring the highest degree of accuracy. A major component of our activity relates to statutory compliance including HMRC, Pension Regulator and Minimum Wage and compliance is at the forefront of our minds in everything we do. The team collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including but not limited to People Business Partners, Finance, Tech and Reward.
As a Payroll & People Services Assistant you will have the opportunity to embark on various courses of study including, Payroll Technician Certificate, CIPP Degree as well as other relevant study. We also offer an in-house knowledge support process using the Payroll Centre.
In this role, you will effectively be responsible for delivering all aspects of payroll delivery for a part or parts of the business.
What you\’ll be doing
We do things a little differently here. Our payroll is 100% in-house, which means you’ll be right at the heart of delivering a first-class service not just to our customers, but to our brilliant colleagues too.
Whether you already know your way around payroll legislation or you’re keen to learn, we’ll support you every step of the way. You’ll get hands-on with everything from tax and national insurance to maternity leave calculations, and you’ll also play a key role in supporting our People (HR) team with admin tasks that really matter.
- Getting to grips with contracts and how they link to payroll legislation.
- Using our payroll systems to create, update and manage colleague records.
- Making sure everyone gets paid accurately and on time (because who doesn’t love payday?)
- Keeping us compliant with all the important stuff tax, NI, pensions and more.
- Meeting internal and external reporting deadlines like a pro.
- Communicating clearly and kindly with colleagues and partners.
- Upholding confidentiality and professional standards in everything you do.
- Being the go-to person for payroll questions and support.
- Taking ownership of tricky problems and seeing them through.
- Staying on top of data protection requirements.
- Keeping your skills fresh through continuous learning because payroll never stands still.
