We are the UK’s Number One homewares retailer offering c100,000 products building a consumer-focused total retail business that delights customers through our multichannel operation. Here at Dunelm, our Finance team supports our trading teams to make the best commercial decisions, collates customer transactions, balances the books, and manages procurement. We also analyse financial data to identify patterns, trends and opportunities that we can use to help grow.
The team is a group of around 80 colleagues, which is small enough to enable roles to be broad but at the same time large enough to offer ample opportunities for development into new areas. Senior Finance Manager Group Accounting and Reporting is a high-profile role covering external financial reporting, financial control improvement, managing the external audit relationship, advising on complex accounting issues, determining and implementing accounting policies and how the organisation measures its performance and presents and communicates this to the external world. Leading a team of 4, this role will play a key role in influencing the rest of the Finance function and wider Operations to deliver robust and accurate Group results.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the Financial Reporting Team, ensuring high quality and timely information provided to all stakeholders.
- Own the relationship with the external auditors, ensuring that we work in partnership to ensure that there is a culture of ‘no surprises’.
- Lead on the interim and year end financials, including the statutory accounts for the Annual Report, subsidiary accounts and any RNS.
- Lead on the transition of any new accounting standards or developments in Financial Reporting into Dunelm.
- Own the integrity of the financial close process, including monitoring balance sheet substantiation activities and improving the standard of reconciliations.
- Act as advisor to other business areas regarding all financial accounting matters, including ensuring a robust approach to accounting judgements and estimates.
- Drive process improvements within the team, including development of group accounting framework.
- Day to day management, including coaching and development training, to ensure the team maintains a high degree of competency in technical accounting and reporting matters.
What we’ll look for in you
- ACA or ACCA qualification.
- Technical accounting expert with experience of working in large corporates and exposure to group accounts, external financial reporting and statutory audit.
- Proven line manager, capable of coaching and developing team members to achieve strong performance.
- Advanced stakeholder management skills, able to tailor approach to audience whether internal or external, including the external auditors.
- Highly effective organisational skills, logical approach and attention to detail.
- Proactive approach to self-development and team development.
- Proven ability to work to deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Self-motivated, resilient and able to demonstrate initiative.
Desirable
- IT skills with strong knowledge of Excel.
- Competent in the use of ERP systems (SAP desirable).
- Qualified in practice.
