Dune is a small team building large things. We are generalist engineers who take ownership of complex systems and operate them in production. We value thoughtful design over quick fixes and prefer automation over manual work.
As a software engineer focused on our platform and infrastructure, you will play a key role in building and operating the systems that power Dune and Sim. This is a hands-on engineering role: you will design and operate cloud infrastructure, run Kubernetes in production, and build the tooling, automation, and observability that enable other teams to move fast and safely. You’ll work closely with other teams to ensure the platform is reliable and scalable. You will also help design and operate the platform in a way that naturally enforces security and compliance requirements as part of everyday engineering work.
In this role, you will:
- Design, operate, and continuously improve the cloud infrastructure that powers our systems using infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, and observability.
- Own critical parts of the platform: identify bottlenecks, propose and implement improvements, and drive reliability and performance at scale.
- Run Kubernetes in production and evolve how we operate it.
- Develop and maintain automation, CI/CD pipelines, and internal tooling that improve developer experience.
- Build monitoring and observability that make system health and performance easy to understand.
- Implement and operate security and compliance constraints as part of normal engineering work.
You might be a great fit for this role if you:
- Have experience designing, operating, and optimising cloud infrastructure in production (ideally AWS), including provisioning, configuration, and disaster recovery.
- Have run Kubernetes in production and understand its operational trade-offs.
- Are comfortable working autonomously, picking up new systems quickly, and driving improvements without constant direction.
- Think about security as part of system design, not as an afterthought or checklist.
- Enjoy building and maintaining tooling and platforms that make other engineers more productive.
- Have a solid foundation in computer science fundamentals and system design.
- Are a strong learner and expect to grow with support from more experienced engineers on the team.
- Communicate clearly with engineers across teams in a remote, collaborative environment.
This is a software-centric platform role: you’ll write production code regularly and use AI tools fluently to accelerate and improve your work.
Bonus: have operated streaming systems (e.g. Redpanda or similar) or have experience running infrastructure on bare metal.
We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
