Litigation Department Background

Our litigation teams are ranked and recommended by The Legal 500 UK Directory for their excellence in Commercial Litigation, Professional Negligence, Contentious Probate and General Litigation. We have extensive experience representing both claimants and defendants, including complex high‑value civil / commercial matters such as:

  • Bankruptcy and Insolvency
  • Civil Fraud

Our lawyers advise and assist in dispute resolution and litigated cases and regularly act in reported cases in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Main Responsibilities of the Role

  • Report directly to Department Director
  • Provide a professional proactive approach with strong client care skills and a sensitive and sympathetic understanding of clients’ needs
  • Manage all aspects of Litigation work and, where appropriate, provide technical expertise and guidance to other team members
  • Handle appropriate caseload types and complexities

Key Tasks

  • Boundary disputes – resolving disagreements between neighbours about property lines
  • Landlord and tenant issues – dealing with rent arrears, lease breaches, eviction proceedings, and lease renewals
  • Rights of way and easements – advising on access rights and usage of land
  • Nuisance and trespass claims – acting where someone’s use of their property interferes with another’s
  • Disputes over property ownership – handling cases such as co‑ownership disagreements or claims under trusts
  • Development issues – disputes related to property development, including restrictive covenants and planning
  • Disrepair – acting for landlord and tenant
  • Mortgage Repossessions
  • Commercial property matters – lease related matters such as dilapidations, arrears of rents and lease forfeiture

Attend clients, take instructions, and prepare cases. Deal with correspondence. Maintain accurate time costing procedures. Implement supervisor recommendations following monthly file reviews and ensure compliance with file management.

Key Skills Required

  • Proven litigation experience – minimum 3 years’ PQE managing varied caseloads
  • Clean, valid Practising Certificate at the time of applying
  • Committed team player who adapts to new challenges
  • Professional proactive approach with excellent client care and ability to handle sensitive matters
  • Excellent networking and communication skills, capable of marketing the firm and generating new business
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Use own initiative and sound judgment
  • Working knowledge of publicly funded Litigation work and ability to service privately funded cases
  • Extensive experience in probate litigation
  • Advocacy experience is an advantage
  • Excellent IT skills – familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management
