Our Immigration team is renowned for its extensive experience in asylum claims and challenging human rights violations for unaccompanied minors and victims of torture, trafficking, and domestic abuse. In these cases, we are committed to assisting no matter the individual client's circumstance.
Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Department Director.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members throughout immigration work.
- Manage and supervise solicitors, trainee solicitors, and caseworkers, ensuring appropriate caseload types and complexities.
- Assist with the delivery of training and development within the department.
- Handle a variety of duties including detained clients, victims of trafficking & torture, asylum work from initial applications through to tribunal appeal and upper court appeal matters, entry clearance applications and appeals, and some judicial review work.
- Prepare and manage funding applications to the Legal Aid Agency.
- Prepare draft documents, including witness statements and process evidence.
- Prepare applications to meet Home Office requirements (draft application forms, index of documents, letters of representation).
- Attend conferences and court proceedings.
- Adopt a professional pro‑active approach and strong client care skills, and engage in business development and marketing to supplement the substantial work volumes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Clean, valid practising certificate at the time of application.
- Membership of the Law Society Immigration & Asylum Law Accreditation (IAAS level 2 desirable).
- Proven supervisory experience and ability to meet key performance indicators.
- Strong management skills with experience managing caseloads and supervising staff.
- Professional, proactive, and excellent client care skills, especially for vulnerable client matters.
- Excellent networking and communication skills, and ability to market the company and generate new business.
- Working knowledge of publicly funded immigration work and ability to handle privately funded cases.
- Extensive experience with all immigration matters, including adoption cases.
- Advocacy experience, especially in court.
- Excellent IT skills – familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management.
