Our Court of Protection deputyship team acts as professional deputy and trustee for clients who lack capacity to manage their finances. We act for clients who lack capacity due to mental health issues, learning disability, addiction, and other issues. We work closely with litigation teams to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place when sending compensation to vulnerable clients.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report directly to Department Director
- Professional pro-active approach, strong client care skills, and a sensitive understanding of clients’ needs
- Assisting with Court of Protection applications such as appointing a deputy, approval for a property purchase, family care payments, or ACC approval, completing OPG reports, drafting PI and DPT trusts, and preparing expert reports on likely deputyship costs
- Attending clients, taking instructions, and preparing cases
- Dealing with correspondence
- Maintaining accurate time costing procedures
- Implementing any recommendations made by your supervisor following monthly file reviews
- Ensuring compliance with file management
Key Skills Required:
- A strong academic background with a Law degree
- Legal experience as a Court of Protection Paralegal/Advisor
- Clear understanding and application of Court of Protection
- Business acumen and the ability to market the Company
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with all types of people
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills and ability to use own initiative but know when to seek guidance
- Committed team player, self-motivated, and professional
- Excellent IT Skills - familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management skills
The Company will consider applicants wishing to work part-time (2-3 days per week) or with flexible working hours. The Company will allow hybrid working in accordance with the company policy.
