About the Role
As a Health and Safety Trainee, you will embark on a structured learning journey within our fast-paced food manufacturing environment. You will gain hands‑on experience across all aspects of health and safety, supported by dedicated mentors and bespoke development opportunities. This role is your gateway to a rewarding career in occupational health and safety. The objective of the traineeship is to develop the incumbent to become a H&S Officer.

- Gaining a Level 3 Health and Safety Apprenticeship Qualification
As part of your apprenticeship, you will work towards achieving a Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician qualification, which is equivalent to A-Levels. This nationally recognised qualification will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to advise on statutory health, safety, and environmental requirements, conduct risk assessments, support incident investigations, and deliver health and safety training. Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to join the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) at TechIOSH level and further your career in health and safety.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in undertaking health and safety audits and inspections on site
- Support the monitoring and review of protective and preventative measures, and help plan and implement these measures
- Participate in conducting risk assessments and developing Safe Working Practices (SWPs)
- Work alongside production teams to roll out SWPs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Take a proactive approach to health and safety, aiming to reduce accidents and near misses
- Assist in writing and delivering team briefs and Task Observation Behavioural Evaluation Reports
- Support general health and safety reporting and awareness‑raising activities
- Liaise with department managers to promote health and safety best practices
- Assist with health and safety investigations and the collation of information
- Help organise site training, such as accident investigation and manual handling sessions
- Support the development of the health and safety management system and continuous improvement initiatives
- Complete COSHH assessments and assist with chemical handling and storage requirements
- Support occupational health programmes and monitor site health and safety KPI targets
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset and attend relevant training to support your professional development
